Search engine optimization popularly called ‘SEO’, is the process of increasing the ranking in search engines when someone types the keywords of related to your site. The site which has a higher ranking in the search engine compared to its competitor, will get the most traffic and obviously more sales. Search engines have good enough data for a particular query or search, and getting into the top in the first page of search engine results among thousands and millions of competitors is not an easy task. But with some practical changes to your website and following a systematic process, you can ultimately get there. These are some useful tips and tasks to get you started in optimizing your website.
Before starting the SEO process, do a brief web site analysis that includes – Checking the number of pages in the site, use of flash or animations and images, website content, page titles, sitemap etc. Check the header tags, anchor text in the pages of the site, Robot.txt files. Then check where your competitor websites and where they rank in the search results for your keywords.
Analyze the web site thoroughly and make a list of your major keywords. You can categories them as primary keywords or secondary keywords. You can take the help of some keyword tools like Keywords Everywhere, Uber Suggest or Google keyword planner. These keywords tool give you the idea and data of what the user is searching in search engines. Select the all of those keywords and then make the list of your major keywords. Use your competitor’s website as a platform, from where you get ideas and then work on them, to generate innovative keywords and phrases.
Give every page of your website a unique title – which captures the essence of that page including product, service and don’t forget to include your popular keywords in the text. Page titles talk about the content, theme of the page. Page title plays a major role in search engine optimization. So choose your page title very carefully. Don’t write long page title for your site pages. Length of the page title should be of between 60-80 characters.
Meta description also plays a major role in search engine optimization. Meta description gives a more elaborate description about your product and the content in that page. Make a good description of your page and use your major keywords in description. Don’t fill the description with full of keywords, it should be look like a description. Length of Meta description tags should be of between 140-160 characters. Another fact that makes Meta description so important is – the content you provide is displayed as a part of the Search Engine Result Pages (SERP) – which means it is the text people see when your website shows in the results pages. Some unique ideas, can also including your Toll-Free or Mobile number, so that people can pick up the phone and call us, even before they visit your website.
For Google search engine optimization, Meta keywords are of no longer use. But still for other search engines you can use the Meta keywords. You can put your primary and secondary keywords in Meta keywords tags.
You have often listened to the adage; content is king – and in the case of search engine optimization, it is very true. Content plays a major role in search engine ranking. Your site must have good quality of content. A web site must have unique, fresh, relevant and comprehensive content to succeed in search engine ranking. Search engine love fresh and unique content and they reward you with higher ranking and priority in search results. Foundation of web site must be made of great content. Use your main keywords in your content. But always keep in mind write for your audience not for search engines.
Make sure that your each page should have header tags (h1 tags). Header tags starts from h1 to h6. Use your major keywords in your h1 tags. Search engine gives the higher priority to anchors text. Use you major keywords in anchor text. Avoid using generic phrases like ‘click here’, ‘read more’ in anchor text. Instead use a more search engine friendly technique like replacing the text with something like ‘Information about Widgets Sold Online here’. This method also gives helps in providing a number of inbound links to other pages – which is another technique to get search engines to find all your web pages and content.
Check the keywords density of your page. A keyword density of 2-6% is supposed to good for search engine optimization. Keyword density aims at stopping people from ‘stuffing’ their WebPages with keywords making the page look artificial and misleading to visitors. Search engines penalize website that stuff their pages with keywords, by dropping them lower in search results or totally removing them from their index.
Basically there are two types of URLs Dynamic and Static. You can easily find out which URL is dynamic and which is static. A dynamic URL looks like this http://www.website.com/?abc=2677fred857&dcs=2de!se23#72. These types of URLs are neither user friendly nor search engines. It’s quite hard to understand these types of URLs.
Where as a static URL like this http://www.website.com/products/clothes-html. These types of URLs are user and search engine friendly and easy to understand. So make sure your all site pages have static URLs.
Create the site map for you site. Your site map should be linked to all pages of your site. An ideal site map offers the inside links to all internal pages of the web sites. If site have more than 100 pages its better to create a site map that links to all major categories of your site. It will make each page of the site just two clicks away from the home page.
Now site downloading time also plays an important role in Search engine optimization. Make sure that web site should not have large images in your main banner area. Reduce the size of images as much as possible use relevant image descriptions in the alt tags of your HTML pages.
Google uses a mobile first ranking algorithm meaning that it crawls and indexes your website based on how it loads on the mobile device versus a desktop computer.
Create the robot.txt files for your site. Robot.txt files are those files which tells the search engines robots which pages of the site has to be crawled and which doesn’t. Search engine robots give priority to those entire sites which have robot.txt files.
Link Building plays a major role in search engine ranking of the site. Try to get the links from relevant sites. In link building of the site concentrate more on quality than quantity. One quality link from good relevant site is more valuable than ten links from irrelevant site. Other methods of organic link building are Blog Creation, Blog commenting, Newsletter, videos creation and Social media sites.
Besides these you can do the article submission, press release submission, directory submission of your site and can get quality of back links for your site.
